Jerry Falwell

So the father of super right wing conservative Christianity in the last 50 years has died( his brother Pat Robertson is still around). I'd like to know your thoughts on this guy and his contributions (or lack there of) to the faith and to our country.

I personally find it sad that what most people will remember him by is his hatred for sinners (whether he truly hated them or not, that seems to be what came across). I feel like he had such good intentions in the beginning, but when he intertwined faith so strongly with politics he alienated himself from the people that God wanted to use him to reach.

What are your thoughts?

michael....wallace? glad you like mine, this is my first time to see yours so i will reserve judgement until i have become acclimated. life is good and i wish the same for you.

Jerry Falwell should have rode off into the sunset when Ronald Reagan left office.

Ben Witherington has a great post on his blog about Falwell (they debated)

www.benwitherington.com and click on BLOG.

Also, did you see the clip of Falwell telling Larry Flint "I Love You" on Larry King Live? He also thanked him for the close friendship and the debates they had! Whooda Thunk It?

While there was a public side of Falwell that was hard to swallow, there was also a private side of him that supported orphanages and all kinds of ministries locally, nationally and internationally. Let God take care of the judging. There's always more to a man than his public persona. I would hate to be judged totally by a few stupid things I say from time to time.
